WHAT IS WELLNESS RECOVERY?

Wellness & Recovery are guiding principles of the NYS Office of Mental Health. Information posted on this site is a collection of Ulster County resources designed to help individuals craft their own individual plans for Wellness & Recovery.

Wellness

Wellness is a conscious, self-directed, evolving process of achieving one’s full potential. It is a multi-dimensional, holistic lifestyle, encompassing mental, physical, emotional, social, & spiritual well-being. Wellness is positive & affirming. The message of mental health recovery is not remission or a miracle cure, but the process of living a fulfilling life despite illness or loss.

Recovery

Recovery is a personal journey of wellness, resiliency & transformation. It involves developing hope, a sense of self, supportive relationships, empowerment, social inclusion, coping skills & meaning. Recovery is supported by personal responsibility, self-advocacy, education, support & hope.
